Recykal, a digital waste-commerce startup, uses its technologies to promote material movements and transactions across India’s waste management and recycling value chain. It contributes to the promotion of circularity by effectively recycling local garbage. Through its digital solutions, the firm connects waste generators, collectors, processors, recyclers, and brand owners. It is now capable of channeling around 22,000 metric tonnes of plastic waste each month. Its founder, Akshay Deshpande, Manager, Industrial Waste Management at Recykal, discuss the work that is being done.
Plastic waste management
They are a digital firm that assists with waste management and recycling. We ease the transportation of materials, and the movement is traceable. Monthly, the channel about 22,000 metric tonnes (MT) of plastic waste across India and assist in the transfer of recyclable waste from collectors to recyclers, avoiding waste from entering landfills and water bodies.
Marketplace
Recykal is an online marketplace for buying and selling recyclables such as plastics, paper, and e-waste. It brings together bulk waste generators, waste collectors, and recyclers. It permits transactions that are transparent and traceable. The documentation, which includes weighbridge invoices, delivery challans, and other documents, is handled online.
EPR loop and smart solutions
They have software-as-a-service and other technology-enabled goods. One of them is an EPR tool to manage the Extended Producers’ Responsibility (EPR), in which brands can track the trash that they create. They digitize the day-to-day operations of local waste collection centers, providing them with visibility into the amount of rubbish channeled, transactions, personnel records, and other data. In addition, they provide smart systems for dry waste collection centers to track inflows and outflows.
Reach and expansion
The digital footprint for waste collection and channelization connects over four lakh customers. 1,000+ enterprises, 500 collectors, waste management providers, and recyclers across 25 states, allowing for greater plastic waste collection and recycling. In the previous two years, they have channeled over 2,50,000 MT of plastic waste, and their goal is to channel around 20 lakh MT of plastic waste by 2025. They are spreading across India and will establish over 100 Recykal points. They wish to raise awareness about proper disposal procedures.
