Plastic neutrality- A global alternative

With the market being on a rise, there are several big industries on a boom. With this, manufacturing units are working overtime, and using resources in bulk. Now it is time that we also look at the increasing responsibility that is building upon our shoulders. This is where we start thinking about our environment from a sustainability point of view and figure out a way to switch from plastics to their alternatives. Its consumption is now ingraining in society’s functioning, threatening the nutrition of all species. This is especially true for the rapidly expanding D2C businesses. This is because the majority of the packaging they use is made of plastic.

Towards a healthy environment

E-commerce enterprises’ usage of containers, adhesives, and bubble wrap doesn’t help their cause either. Furthermore, plastic is non-biodegradable, which means that all plastic ever made is still there in some form in the environment. This is where the novel idea of ‘plastic neutrality’ comes into play. Dabur established a target of collecting, processing, and recycling over 22,000MT of post-consumer plastic trash and exceeded it three months early. They collaborated with government-registered recycling partners and made incremental steps to minimize plastic trash in cities and towns.

Here the approach we are taking towards having a sustainable future is not the banning of plastic but a different approach of thoughtfully using and managing it. With several campaigns and initiatives already in the run, we see a changed approach of people at the grassroots level.

While educating people is an important step towards the goal. Several enterprises have started with schools and colleges for a better tomorrow. Basic steps like the segregation from the plastic can go a long way. It is also easy for people to include these steps in their day to day lives. With Dabur being the first company to be a plastic neutral one, with the coming generation this number will surely be on a rise.
