Most packaging products are recyclable but not many people do the waste segregation at source and also litter leading to the big problem of plastic waste and then the majority of this debris winds up in landfills or clogs rivers and lakes. Considering this big issue of waste segregation, companies have been increasing their efforts to decrease plastic waste or deploying methods for plastic waste collection and recycling. There is also a need for people to understand the importance of the segregation of waste in their respective houses.
With the collaboration of Pepsi Co India and United Way Delhi, we get to see the sustainable management of consumer plastic waste. As part of the Tidy Trails program, the business will deploy mobile vans to around 200 locations in Mathura-Vrindavan to collect post-consumer plastic waste.
This initiative will look at the very roots of waste management and how it can be highly beneficial to our environment. This will be followed by online educational seminars and the distribution of instructional materials which will be organized for both the shopkeeper community and the general public. As per the program, post-consumer plastic waste accumulated will be segregated and will be recycled into products such as chairs and tables. It is critical to build collaborations and raise awareness to solve the problem of plastic waste management, which leads to behavioral change.
The Tidy Trail initiative hopefully will encourage the shopkeeper community in Mathura-Vrindavan, which includes both organized and unorganized retail establishments in eight commercial zones, to enhance behavior change towards environmental waste. These programs will work towards the transformation idea of waste management at the local level but also raise awareness among local individuals and communities about the proper disposal of plastic trash.
